Coffee Blends

Fri, Oct 2, 2015

By mixing beans from different regions, a roaster is creating a coffee blend. A blend can be a simple mixture of two beans from different origins or it can be extremely complex by combining six divers beans. Roasters also need to pay attention to the percentage rate of each bean, as a blend with a 50% - 50% combination will taste completely different than a 20% - 80% blend with the same beans.

It is said that Mocha Java is the oldest blend in the history of coffee. The science behind blending is to complement the qualities and strengths of each coffee. Roasters blend to create a proprietary taste with unique profiles in order to gain loyal consumers. Their objective is to deliver a consistent cup year round that customers can rely on. Roasters can alter the coffee’s natural qualities such as body, acidity, balance, aroma, sweetness and more to create a flavor profile. In this sense, a roaster is like a chef; they come up with their signature dish by mixing different ingredients.

Roasters developed blends according to their taste, company’s goal or to appeal the palate of the local market, but you are not an average coffee drinker. You should not feel constrained to predetermined blends that most likely don’t match your personal preference. At Cubico Coffee, you can create your blend.
