Cortadito Coffee

A Cortadito or Cortado, as it is known in Latin America, is basically an espresso shot with milk. It is a short version of Café con leche (coffee with milk). A Cortadito is very similar to a macchiato. The ratio of coffee and steamed milk varies depending on the person who makes it but it is usually one part coffee one part milk. The most common way to prepare a Cortadito is to prepare a Cuban Coffee and add the milk afterwards. Usually, it is drink as a dessert or at breakfast by itself or with food.

In Cuban American communities drinking a Cortadito or a Cuban Coffee is part of their daily life. It is an important social and cultural activity that tides them to their country. In South Florida, you will find countless of restaurants and cafes that brew great Cortaditos, yet if you want to make it yourself follow our simple household recipe below.

You will need

A Moka pot, a mixing container, a spoon, sugar, steamed milk and of course your Full City roast Cubico Coffee of choice.

Preparation

1. Brew your Cubico Coffee in a Moka pot.

2. Add around ¼ cup of sugar to a mixing container and pour a small amount of freshly brewed Cubico Coffee.

3. With a spoon beat vigorously the sugar and your Cubico Coffee until the mixture turns pale beige and most of the sugar is dissolve.

4. Slowly add the remainder of the coffee to the mixing container and continue to mix until the sugar dissolves. A thin sugary foam layer or espumita should form atop your Cubico Coffee.

5. Serve immediately and pour the steamed milk into the cup.

If Cuban coffee seem to strong for you, then a Cortadito would be more suitable for you. Just beware once you taste a Cortadito you are not going back to your regular cup of coffee. It is delicious and so addictive; for sure it will become your favorite drink.
